Experience the Ultimate in Modern Art at the Tate Modern

Experience the Ultimate in Modern Art at the Tate ModernTake in the abstract, the expressionist, the poetry and dreaminess, the cubist, the futurist and the outright weird when you visit the Tate Modern in London.

Housed in an old power station, the Tate Modern is one of the largest and most popular international modern art museums in the world.  Each year, art lovers from all over the globe head to the Tate Modern to see one of the most cutting edge galleries of modern art on the planet.
Before you even enter the Tate Modern, stop to admire the building, which was once the Bankside Power Station, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott.  When the power station closed in 1981, architects Herzog and de Meuron redesigned the site to look as it does today.  To learn more about all the work that went into the building, check out the documentary “Architects Herzog and de Meuron: Alchemy of Building and Tate Modern.”
When you enter the museum, note that the collection is displayed on several levels of the building.  Levels three and five are home to the permanent exhibitions, while one, two and four host the temporary exhibitions.  Level three focuses on expressionism, abstraction and abstract expressionism.  This level features the work of Monet, Kapoor, Rothko and Matisse, among others.  Level five focuses on Arte Povera, featuring artists such as Aligiero Boetti, Jannis Kounellis, Ana Mendieta and Jenny Holzer, as well as an exhibition on cubism, futurism and pop art, with works from Picasso, Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol.
Temporary exhibitions are housed in the Turbine Hall on Level one, which used to house the generators in the old power station, in the Level Two Gallery as well as in the exhibition areas on Level four.
In addition to the exhibitions, the Tate Modern also features a variety of events.  Events include film screenings, music performances, talks and discussions and a variety of courses and workshops.  Courses and workshops cover everything from art discussions to drawing classes, artistic technique courses and more.
The Tate Modern displays some of the most progressive and unique modern art in the world.  If you are an art enthusiast, you won’t want to miss a visit to this excellent museum the next time you are in London.
