Have you heard about the scenic beaches in Uruguay? They’re surrounded by luxurious resorts, a fabulous nightlife and offer an incredible array of activities. The breathtaking Punta del Este is what’s known as “the French Riviera” of South America and it’s waiting for you. Come discover all that it has to offer. Take a flight from Montevideo or a ferry from Buenos Aires and you’ll arrive at a place that offers something for everyone. You can enjoy a myriad of natural attractions, sports events, water related fun, superb dining and even amazing retail opportunities. If all you desire is time to kick back and soak up the rays, consider the calm blue waters of Mansa. But if you prefer crashing waves and high surf, Brava beach on the Atlantic side is best for you. When touring the sites, don’t miss “The Hand,” an enormous sculpture made of concrete which rises out of the sea. Visit Casapueblo said to be a “living sculpture” from where you can take in the views of the sunrise over the ocean or the magic of the sunset above the Plata River. Climb up to the top of the lighthouse built in 1860 and take in the panoramic vistas of the city’s skyline. Stroll down Gorlero Avenue to view impressive colonial architecture. Stop by galleries and artist’s studios on your way to Artigas Square where you’ll encounter a wide selection of handicrafts markets for great buys. Continue on your journey and notice the scents given off by thousands of pine trees that line the streets. You’ll witness an impressive number of elegant and budget hotels, resorts with spas and casinos and spacious marinas for all size vessels. And when you get hungry, you’ll find great restaurants where to savor the fresh seafood for which Punta del Este is famous. Try El Viejo Marino for instance a favorite of locals and tourists alike. Or go to Lo de Tere known for its grilled Latin specialties. And hopefully you brought an empty suitcase. The boutiques along Gorlero Avenue are said to resemble those of Paris. They carry the latest couture along with some of the best leather products in the world.
