The Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of ChinaTravelers looking to experience one of the most remarkable feats of mankind will be amazed by the Great Wall of China.

Stretching over 4,000 miles (6,400 km), this wall is truly great.  It is the longest wall in the world and is said that the Great Wall can be seen from outer space.  Originally built between the 5th century BC and the 16th century, in order to protect China from attacks at its northern borders, the Great Wall of China is currently one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.  Each year, about 10 million tourists flock to the Great Wall from around the globe.
Because the Great Wall of China stretches for thousands of miles, there are many points at which you can visit the wall.  If you are already visiting China, then you may choose to visit the section of the wall that is closest to the city or village you are already in.  However, if you are going to China specifically to see the wall, then you should do a bit of research to decide which part of the wall you’d most like to see.
Some sections of the wall have been repaired in recent years, while others are preserved.  Checking out the wall from a few different vantage points can be interesting, as you can compare the new and the old.
It is also important to take into consideration that some of the sections of the wall offer tourists the option to ride up to the wall in cable cars, whereas some sections require difficult hikes to reach and explore the wall.  The Badaling Great wall, 2 hours northwest of Beijing, is one of the more popular sections and it offers a cable car.  The hiking level at Badaling is easy.  Other sections of the wall that offer cable car services include the Mutianyu Great Wall, which have easy hiking, and the Jinshanling and the Simata Great Walls with advanced hiking.  Advanced hikes without cable cars are found at the Jiankou Great Wall and Huangyaguan Great Wall.  Less experienced climbers and hikers are encouraged to visit the Gubeikou Great Wall and Juyongguan Great wall, with moderate level hikes.
Visiting the Great Wall of China is an amazing experience for adventurers and their families.  This remarkable structure makes for a one-of-a-kind travel experience.
