During the 17th century in the dutch golden age, the famous canals were built and the city received its current appearance.
Weather Conditions
The weather in Amsterdam ranges from a sunny summer of about twenty degrees Celsius to freezing temperatures during the winter months. Spring and Autumn are comfortable, but rainy. Because of the seasonal changes, it is very important to check current weather conditions before your arrival.
Spoken Languages
You can hear many spoken languages in the city of Amsterdam. English speakers are easily understood and most locals speak it fluently. Other languages that are commonly used in Amsterdam are French and German. The official and most common language is of course Dutch. Although Dutch and German are very close languages they are not naturally understood by German and Dutch people and are different both in vocabulary and pronunciation.
Safety in Amsterdam
Amsterdam is considered a safe city, including the famous red light district, and tourists can explore the city at night with no fear for their safety. However, beware of pickpockets and do not try to take photos of the women in the red light district.
